How is Diversity linked to Communities?
"Our mission is to develop solid, meaningful relationships with our communities. We work with community leaders, elected officials and local organizations to understand the wants and needs of the community and to develop initiatives that have a positive impact on the lives of the residents. By understanding and respecting the rich diversity of each community and our customers that reside there, we learn how to serve and appreciate its uniqueness. We demonstrate that commitment, through charitable contributions, employment initiatives, volunteerism and the creation of economic partnerships."

Macy's, Inc., its Foundation, employees and customers support thousands of
nonprofit organizations annually, enriching the communities where we do business
and where we live and work. We believe in "giving back" because it's the right thing
to do, and we are proud of our heritage as a community leader for worthwhile
initiatives across the country.
Support for our communities comes through gifts
from the company, the Macy's Foundation, and our employees. We've also made it
possible for our customers to join us in "giving back"
through our programs such as Thanks for Sharing,
Shop for a Cause, and Go Red, the American Heart
Association's women's heart health program.
Additionally, Macy's encourages its employees
to be active volunteers through the company's award-winning
Partners in Time program. Approximately
130,000 hours were volunteered through Partners in
Time in 2006, which is valued as a $2.4 million
contribution by the charities we benefit.
Through all of our efforts last year – company,
Foundation, employees and customers – more than
$74 million was raised for nonprofit organizations
across the nation.
