Lundgren Named Board Chairman of NMSDC
Reinforcing our company"s commitment to supplier diversity, Macy"s, Inc. Chairman, President and CEO Terry J. Lundgren has been named chairman of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC), one of the country"s leading business membership organizations.
The NMSDC Network includes a national office in New York and 39 regional councils that certify and match more than 15,000 minority-owned businesses (Asian, Black, Hispanic and Native American) with member corporations that want to purchase goods and services.
"We are aggressive in recruiting and developing minority and women-owned suppliers for merchandise we sell, as well as goods and services used in running the business," Lundgren said, in addressing the NMSDC Conference in Miami. "We depend on Minority Business Enterprises (MBEs) and Women Business Enterprises (WBEs) to bring us fresh ideas, products that help us operate more efficiently and merchandise that distinguishes Macy"s and Bloomingdale"s from other stores."
In 2006, the Macy"s, Inc. supplier diversity spend was $772 million, an increase of 57 percent from 2005. The goal is to reach $1 billion by 2009.
