Corporate and Foundation Giving

Through our gifts from the company (including all operating divisions) and the Macy's Foundation, more than $35.7 million was contributed to approximately 5,700 nonprofit organizations in 2007. Our focus areas for funding are arts and culture, education, HIV/AIDS awareness and research, minority issues and women's issues.

Some of the innovative and impactful programs receiving our support in 2007 include:

  • Gifts to the American Red Cross to help with disaster relief on the West Coast as a result of the wildfires and in the Northwest because of flooding.

  • Support of the Heart Gallery, a program in the New York City metropolitan area that connects award-winning photographers with hard-to-place children in the foster care system who need loving homes. Each child's compelling portrait, as photographed by these notable photographers, is displayed in high-traffic venues such as Penn Station and Grand Central Station. Since the program's launch in May 2007, 15 Heart Gallery children were placed by year-end and another six placements are pending.

  • Sponsorship of Project Bundle-Up, a joint community service effort of Macy's, the Salvation Army and WTAE -TV in Pittsburgh. This unique program provides new winter coats, hats, scarves, mittens and boots to thousands of disadvantaged Western Pennsylvania children and senior citizens annually. Since its inception, Project Bundle-Up has raised more than $9 million and has provided new winter outerwear to more than 190,000 individuals.
