Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade®
The magic of the season returned again in November as the "parade of Wonder" stepped off and the nation gathered to celebrate the holiday with the 81st annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. The Macy's parade continues to put on one of the biggest shows in America. More than 3.5 million spectators line the streets of New York City and 50 million viewers watch via network television. The Macy's parade has marched on since its inception in 1924, with a brief hiatus during World War II. It was a tradition begun by Macy's employees, many of whom had recently arrived in the United States and wanted to give thanks for their newfound freedoms. For all these years, it has fulfilled the promise of the beloved movie "the Miracle on 34th Street."

More than 10,000 participants ... Macy's employees, celebrities, volunteers, marching bands, clowns, signature giant character helium balloons, fantasy floats and the one-and-only Santa Claus bring the magic of the season to life for New York and the nation.

The Macy's parade has become a true part of Americana; it was the setting for this year's most popular Super Bowl television commercial when Charlie Brown (balloon) captured a Coca Cola bottle (balloon) high atop New York City's skyscrapers to the delight of football fans across the country.
